Lord Of The Flies

1. A group of children crash on an island. At first they like being away for society. They make a society of their own. It is far from prefect. After awhile the kids begin to think of a forest monster. Their fear begins to make them turn on each other. Right as the conflict is at its climax they are rescued.
2. The theme of the novel is fear. It is a usually theme that everybody can relate to. The children are isolated in a foreign place. The fear of not surviving or something hiding in the woods. The fear the causes us to jump at the strange noise at night. Fear is a very relatable theme and is also interesting.
3. The novel has a dark tone to it. The fact that they worship the Lord of the Flies is a very creepy and off-putting idea. The monster also brings with it a dark tone. Fear causes the kids to do horrible thing to each other and one pays a steep price.
4. The author uses many literary techniques. What stuck out to me were the metaphors. The island itself is a metaphor. The island represented the after life and the monster may have represented a demon or devil. The rescuers of the children also seem to be symbolic. They were describe as though the were angels or saints. The characters also are force to grow up very quickly. There is a ton of symbolism through out the novel. The characterization of the kids and the monster make the story much more interesting. The illusions to religion symbols give the novel a deeper feel to it.

Distractions

Technology has made me lazier.Look up an answer is much easier than thinking. It is hard to imagine a library is the best place to do research. Technology allows us to get more information than we can remember. The SAT questions that are send to peoples emails are awesome, but few people take advantage of them them. The internet is filled with distractions like Facebook and YouTube. It is almost impossible for me to not check my Facebook and Email when I use my computer. Its extremely hard to stay focus. I get on my computer to do one thing and end up doing 5 other things. There to much information out there not to get distracted.

In Search Of

After watching "Filter Bubbles" I learned a few things about how information gathering works. I learned that Facebook and other website block out information they think don't want to see. I feel like people aren't getting as much information as they should. This kind of thing lead to narrow minds. You have to actively search for not only the side you agree with, but the opposing side as well. It is important to understand where people coming from and why they believe what they believe. Search more specifically for a broader range of questions.

Notes on Hamlet

Since we first began reading Hamlet my views have changed. I no longer see Hamlet as weak and confused boy. I now see Hamlet as the sinister madman he truly is! Hamlet has turned into a much more interesting character and is exciting now. his character has drive and is clever. Hamlet plans his moves before he makes them. I imagine that Hamlet's plans will work but his actions will make him regret what he did.

Who Was Shakespeare

After Google searching Shakespeare. I found out a few things. His first name was William. He lived From 26 April 1564 to 23 April 1616. He thought learning was important. We aren't sure what his religion was. Haven't really progressed Shakespeare completely. I can understand why he writes what he writes about now. His works reflect the time period he lived in. His wording is still difficult to understand.

To Facebook or Not to Facebook

I thought of Facebook as the next MySpace. I wasn't to excited but happy to be leaving MySpace. MySpace had gotten old and boring. Facebook allows people to keep in contact with their friends and family. It also has fun games to play. The main problem with Facebook is that it is too big of a distraction from many people. The article made me realize how much money FB makes off of people. FB doesn't care about its user and sell their information. I don't mind though because I have been aware if just for awhile. Its very important to be careful what you put on the interwebs.
